Chapter 33, Section 1

1. What major indigenous groups live in Australia and New Zealand?

The Aborigines live in Australia, and the Maori in New Zealand.

2. How does the standard of living in the urban areas of Australia and New Zealand compare with that of the more rural areas?

Since more people live in the urban areas there is a higher standard of living. Since less people live in the rural areas there are less things that are available.

Creative Writing: Compare and contrast how and why the different groups that make up the population of Australia and New Zealand today first came to settle the region.

They probably came in boats from south east Asia, and when they came they stayed. The people were probably there for a long time.


Chapter 33, Section 2

1. How does everyday life in the region reflect cultural diversity?

Because every day in that region is a day that you get to practice those traditions that your country holds dear.

2. How did European colonization adversely impact the region?

Since they brought diseases many people were killed. With less people they couldn't practice their beliefs, epically when the Europeans were trying to force their way of thought.

Creative Writing: Imagine that you are a tourist traveling among the islands of any part of Oceania in an outrigger canoe. Describe one day of your travels as a journal entry. Be sure to describe the peoples and cultures, as well as their activities.

As I'm traveling i see different islands go by and by. The weather is amazing. So many different people and they water is so blue. People going about their different daily lives its amazing to see whats going on where.

Chapter 25, Section 1

1. How does agriculture provide a living for most of South Asia’s people?

Agriculture is a job that most south Asians can do. Also the cash crops provided in this area are a great way to support an economy.

2. Which countries in South Asia have a free press?

India, Bangladesh and Pakistan are the three countries that have free press.

Creative Writing: Which part of South Asia would you most like to visit? Write a paragraph that describes why you think this is the best country for tourism and use specific examples to support your position.

I would like to visit the country of India. There are many different sights to see, including mountains, temples, and much more. The temples of the different religions in the area would be very interesting to go and visit. Also to go and visit the holy spots in the country would be interesting. Or even taking a trip on the railway. Many different spots in the country would be truly amazing to see.

Chapter 25, Section 2

1. What factors have led to much of the internal violence in South Asia?

The factors that cause most of the fighting is religion, political leaders, government, discrimination, and also class systems.

2. What is a negative consequence of rapid industrialization in the region?

A negative consequence is air pollution, water pollution and crowded cities.

Creative Writing: Pretend you are a government official in South Asia. Your job is to write a short essay designed to convince poor rural populations to stop illegal logging and hunting of endangered animals. Be sure to acknowledge reasons why these people would want to be allowed to cut down trees or hunt endangered animals, and then provide arguments why they should not do so.

People of this city, it is greatly important that you do not cut and kill theses animals and trees. I know the fur and bark are great money sources. Yet it is important that these things are not killed. Don't you want your great grand children to see these animals roaming wildly? Or the air to be much cleaner because of the trees? Think about these questions the next time you go and kill some trees or animals.
